PWC POST-RIDE MAINTENANCE TIPS

PWC POST-RIDE MAINTENANCE TIPS

Just like any land-based vehicle, your PWCs need some TLC to ensure that there are no surprise breakdowns and that your investment stays in great condition for a long time.

We have compiled a list of our top post-ride maintenance tips to ensure that you can spend more days on the water.

READ THE OWNER’S MANUAL

To be familiar with your vehicle you must read the owner’s manual especially if this is your first PWC. It contains operator guides, vehicle safety and also maintenance tips. It also goes through pre-operation checks, post-operating instructions, routine maintenance and special procedures. If you misplaced your owner’s manual, you can check it out here.

WASHING

Always rinse, wash and wipe down the whole vehicle before packing it away as minerals found in the water, especially salt, are corrosive to fibreglass. For an easy-clean, get yourself a Salt-Away Mixer with a Hose Attachment ($120.95) which you can attach to your garden hose. It washes away salt and debris without needing a sponge and leaves a protective coating on the surface, plus you can also use this to flush out the engine and also to clean fishing rods, trailers and wheels as well. Cleaning has never been easier!

FLUSH THE ENGINE REGULARLY

Whether you’re riding in salt water or fresh water, it’s a good idea to thoroughly flush out your PWC’s engine frequently. If you’re riding in salt water, we highly recommend flushing your PWC after each use. This is because there is sand, salt, algae and debris that can build up in your motor over time. By flushing your engine, it will clear all that out and prevent irreversible engine damage.

To flush the engine, make sure to read the owner’s manual for a step by step guide, you can find it in the "Post-Operation Care" section. Never use salt water to flush the engine, and don’t twist the throttle as soon as you pull your PWC out of salt water, as you could cook the salt into the engine and ruin it.

PROTECTION

After you wash your PWC you should take the time to wax the hull. By doing so, you will protect the hull from UV rays, salt spray, water spots, and bird droppings that can damage your hull over time. Find a wax that is nano-polymer that will ensure long-lasting protection and ultimate shine.

The final part is to cover your PWC, especially when it is not in use. Invest in a strong PWC cover that is weather-resistant and heavy-duty to protect it from dirt, debris, and the weather. We stock these at our dealership ranging from $299.00 - $338.95 depending on your model.
